Like you I also am in a constant flare. Have been for years. Can't seem to get into a remission. I've exhausted all medicinal remidies to no avail. I am currently on Remicade every 6 weeks which really does nothing for me. I've been on every med there is for Crohn's except Tysabri which will never happen. So after years of flaring, running high fevers, in and out of the hospital, I had a small bowel ressection with a temp ileostomy. My disease is in my small bowel and rectum. At first I was so depressed that I had to have this surgery and I was only 26 yrs old. I just wanted everything to stop and live a normal life. With the ileostomy my symptoms definitly went away. No more pain, fever, and general feeling of crap. I was on no meds after surgery. While all that sounds great, the actual fact of you looking at your intestine hanging out of your abdomin and having to change the bag and clean the area I found to be overwhelming and I was counting the days for the reversal. 10 weeks after surgery I was reversed and it was one of the best days of my life. I felt good. Bowel movements were excellent and no pain and no fevers. Then 7 months after surgery, BAM, huge flare. Was put back on high dose steroids and began humira. Didn't work, Tried Cimzia, didn't work. Then went on to methotrexate, Didn't work. Now i'm back on remicade. Was working great but slowly started to lose it's effectiveness. Even after all this I still would not want a ileostomy of any kind unless it was absolutely necessary. Surgery is always a last option. Now with your disease you said it's only in your colon but keep in mind it can spread throughout your entire gi tract from your mouth to your anus. I had a reacurrance at the reconnection site of my surgery. So removing your colon with crohn's disease unfortunately will not help as it can spread. So please speak with your GI about
all of your options before considering sugery. Once you remove your colon there's no going back. Be well
