cry Hi! I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2000. I am experiencing symptoms that I haven't before. Every time I eat or drink something, my stomach cramps, I begin to sweat and I get very nauseous. I did see my P.C.P. Tuesday 2/2 and she started on Prednisone 60 mg. decreasing by 10 mg. daily,tomorrow is the last dose. I think the steroid did help bring my appetite back for a short while, but eating is a new experience in pain. I do have a slight amount of rectal bleeding as well. My abdomen is also distended.
If anyone can offer any advice, I would greatly appreciate it! I am currently looking for a new Gastroenterologist, so the only treatment is from my family Dr.

Hi Honeybee and Welcome to the forum. Where is your Crohn's disease located? when you say stomach cramps is that what you mean, or is the pain in your intestines? I think you need a new gastroenterologist and you need to get in to be seen ASAP. Some PCP docs will help by calling a GI's office for you to speed up the process. You probably need new testing to see what is going on. In the meantime, you might want to go to a soft low residue diet with very mild foods. Also, if your PCP will give you phenargan, it can help with the nausea. If you are in severe pain, or you start vomiting severely, you should go to the ER....It's the fastest way to get all the testing done that you need. I hope this helps. Let us know how you are doing

Thank you so much for your advice! The cramping is centered around the naval area. I should have mentioned I did pay a visit to the E.R. on Fri. 2/3. The Dr. ordered a ct scan of the abdomen which came back normal, but I'm not certain if the scan includes the small bowel. I have a follow up appointment with my PCP on Tues, if I can hold out that long! I'll let you know!

Are you having (for you) a normal amount of bowel movements, or do you feel like you aren't getting much through? (IE constipated or same ol' same ol'?) What kind of a diet are you on at the moment? Low residue diet may be very beneficial, as Gumby suggested, and you might try fiddling with your fiber intake. I don't feel qualified to really offer any advice, and I really really think you should get a GI soon. There is only so much a PCP can do since they have a broad but shallow knowledge of the body whereas a gastro has a very large amount of knowledge about the digestive system, though they have less about the rest of the body. I would also add, keep an eye on your temperature, and make sure you aren't spiking to fever levels. Good luck!
