I'm new to this forum, and I guess a new patient to Crohn's as well. I was diagnosed Nov '10 and Dec '10 I was rushed for emergency surgery - total abdominal colectomy with permanent ileostomy. I was 21. At the time, they said it was UC and that the surgery was a cure, they were wrong, it is crohn's and I went back into a severe flare by Feb '11 I had lost another 40lbs leaving me at only 82lbs and 5'8, at that point I was put on Imuran and Remicade and have been in remission since. My husband and I got married this past August and have decided to start trying for pregnancy, all levels are optimal and the specialists feel it is/was safe to discontinue the imuran as long as the remicade is kept for maintenance. They said I could stop it without weening but being afraid of flaring again I decided to taper it by 50mg a week. I took my last dose 2 weeks ago and the next day I started developing a hive like rash but had no side effects during treatment. Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be a complication of the disease, or because my immune system is starting to pick back up? I have tried just about
every cream I can think of (antibiotic, bactroban, hydrocortisone), nothing is helping and it just keeps getting worse, I've even tried taking benedryl thinking it was an allergic reaction to something. The rash is localized to my left arm, both hands and face only. It is NOT butterfly shaped and nothing is different other than the discontinuation of Imuran. Does anyone have a suggestion or similar experience? I saw my family doctor and they have no idea what it is she could only tell me to contact GI if it gets worse but I feel silly seeing them about
a rash that may or may not be related to the medication, or disease.
Any response greatly appreciated, thanks!
