Hi all-
Been a few years since I posted- I have had a few ups and downs over the years- the short of it is I have attempted SCD several times over the years, and it always makes me feel much better, but as soon as I'm doing well and feeling better for a while, I mess up and cheat, and that cheat leads to more cheats and before I know it, I just ate a slice of pizza... But not this time- I first learned of SCD back in 2008, so I have been applying the principles to my diet since that, but I've tended to lean more towards the low carb "life without bread" approach, as I found it easier to live by- used to be a vegetarian, hated to eat meat, so that was a struggle- still haven't had beef or pork, and probably won't- just don't have the appetite for it- so lot's of chicken and turkey, and good fats, probiotics.
But the main problem for me is that I love beer and vegetarian food, both carb-laden... so those have been my downfalls- until now. I am determined to see this diet (SCD) through for the next 4 months, and I hope that I will see the change I desire- been back on the wagon for 2 weeks, no cheats and feeling really good- my wife says I'm like a drug addict who falls off the wagon head first with this diet- and I've just been getting constipated, unfortunately, with all the boiled veges and meat... but I digress...
My question is 2-fold- I would love some help with SCD, and plan to join the BTVC yahoo group- but right now, I'm wondering how long those who have used the pecanbread stages have stayed on a particular stage- just ball park figures or friendly guestimates- I realize it's different for all and dependent on my healing- but just would like to know how others have done with the stages.
And finally- I recently decided to stop imuran, after I tapered myself down to a subtherapeutic dose over the last few months with my GI's knowledge (I was on it for a little over a year, but never more than 100mg/d)- I do not want any biologics or immune suppressants anymore- I have read really exciting and promising anecdotal evidence of the off label use of LDN, and I am interested in trying it for the above stated reasons- however, my GI doesn't have experience with that treatment, and is reluctant to prescribe any med that he feels isn't evidence based- so, I'm hoping one of you fine upstanding healingwell citizens might either live in upstate/central new york (Syracuse, to be specific) and have a GI/doc who prescribes it, or know of someone close by who does, or have some helpful tips on where/how to start the medication.
I also wanted to thank you all for many helpful discussions and info shared, as I've checked here frequently and searched for info on SCD and Low Carb dieting many times, and thank you in advance for your help with my quest.
