I was just told my 11 year old son has Crohn's. And Doctor wants to start 6MP.

I am so sad to hear all that you and Ko have gone through...so many worries. My son was diagnosed at age 10 with arthritis and at 14 with crohns (probably had CD since age 10 in retrospect). Fatigue was always a big problem. Please be careful when he weans off the prednisone...my son was exhausted because he weaned too fast. Anemia and inflammation also cause fatigue. My son also had alot of back pain when on prednisone....we assumed that is what caused it. I too was scared to try the meds, especially when starting the 6MP, but he did not seem to have any side effects other than loss of appetite....that subsided after about 6 months. His energy level got much better after being on the 6MP for several months as did his joints. Having said that, it didn't work for him entirely and he just started Remicade, which scared me even more. When I get really worried I try to think about giving him some quality to his life. If I could have done it all in a natural way I would have, but there were too many options (many of which I tried) and conflicting info and in the meantime there was damage being done. i was told in the beginning that it would take about a year to really wrap my brain around and understand CD and I would say they were correct. This forum is the best place to get info and support. If you trust your doc do as he suggests and if unsure, bounce it off here and you will get many helpful suggestions.
