My cholesterol levels have always been low-normal, but my latest cholesterol test came out high: LDL at 163, HDL 53, and Triglycerides at 139, so I guess the LDL, the bad cholesterol is the main problem. This is so frustrating to me because I exercise at least 30 min a day, I don't drink or smoke, I never eat fast food, and I really try hard to be healthy. So my best guess is that the evil Prednisone that I took for a little over two months this winter messed me up along with menopause. I lost around 20 pounds from being sick. I was overweight, so now I'm about normal weight, so I would think that my cholesterol would have lowered, not elevated. So, I have a problem with fiber due to some sticturing...so I end out avoiding fresh veggies, and whole grains. I can cut back on sugar I guess, but I feel like I'm running out of food to eat. Does anyone take Omega 3's? I hate fish, but I guess I can add yet another pill.
My internist sent a letter with my results saying to " try harder to stay off the steroids and improve your diet." I had to laugh....it's not like I try to get ON steroids!!!!! I read that Pred can raise cholesterol, but does anyone know if my levels will return back to normal? Any diet, or supplement advice will be greatly appreciated.
