What does a stricture feel like?

My stricture was located at the ananstamosis site where my small & large bowel were reconnected after a resection. I always had some pain in the area whenever I was flaring or "ate something I shouldn't have". That pain was any where between a 1 -10 on a pain scale. And no scope was ever albe to get past that point and I was always told there was some scar tissue there. about 3 years ago it started to become a constant pain at CT scan confirmed a stricture. I put up with it for nearly a year until the pain got too bad and I was barely able to eat solid foods(dumb stubborn I know). I also had a bloated feeling sometimes. I finally had surery and they removed about 6 inches of scar tissue. Since then I'm mostly pain free and during my last scope the GI was actually able to get past that point!

For me, having an obstruction involved having a high temperature, pain and nausea. The pain came in contractions and was intense enough to have me groaning and being unable to lie still. It was diffuse pain, though; not particularly located at the site of the stricture. Ended up being admitted to hospital 3 times; the second time I was in the stricture was found with a CT scan - it was 6cm long and at the terminal ileum.

Beyond the obstructions, the stricture has never given me much pain, funnily enough. Nothing like gumby described. But I do hear/feel food rumbling through it. Not quite as often anymore; I used to get vibrating rumbles in that area for hours at a time. Also, it's hard to describe, but I get a sense of pressure/tightness in the area where the stricture is - it can be uncomfortable, but it's not painful. It just feels like food or gas is sat there, waiting to go through. And then sometimes I get contractions in the intestines, but not painful ones, like with the obstructions.

Basically it's uncomfortable and unpleasant at times, but not as bad as it was. I'm not even 100% certain I have a stricture anymore; I think I do, but I won't find out for another few weeks - when I get the results of an MRI scan back.

Yes - I second the feeling of contractions. "Almost" as bad as labor pains. I would also suffer from vomitting and constipation when food attempted to pass through the area. Luckily my strictures were from inflammation and not scar tissue, so once the inflammation was down the pain went away. I defintely have some issues right now, but not as bas as before, and I am currently suffering from a lot of stomach noises, gas, and bloating. I feel like I can actually FEEL the food attemtping to pass through - gross.
