Low dose scheduled codeine for Crohn's?

Has anyone tried plain codeine 15mg every 6 hours to help control diarrhea and pain? I have read some other forums about this and am curious about results. My husband is absolutely miserable.......on Remicade 10mg/kg every 4 weeks, Lomotil, Immodium, Colestid, Lortab, the list goes on....... Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Although I am allergic to most narcotics with the exception of fentayl and oxycodone, I can see how this would work because after my knee surgery, I was on these narcotics which stopped all diarrhea and symptoms for months even after I stopped the narcotics. I have also heard of others using narcotics to help maintain their remission although there is always the possibility of dependency.

30mgs codeine sulfate 2-3 times a day is a knife saving grace for me. I have Crohns and an ileostomy. Without the codeine, I'd have liquid output all the time and wind up dehydrated. The codeine is used as a stool hardener fairly widely in my area. It doesn't do much for pain though.
