I had a bowel resection done about
five years ago and since then can count the number of normal movements I have had on one hand. I almost always have diarrhea every day. Lately, over the last week, my bowels have slowed down and I have only been having a watery stool twice a day, normally it is 3 or 4.
Today I had a movement and to my surprise it was solid.
The problem is that it was thin and a bit flat on one side. I recently also lost my appetite within the same week when I started googling symptoms for another disease and found that I match Colon Cancer, wouldn't you know it...the appetite left me shortly after.
I am only 24 but am terrified of Cancer.
Are thing stools, about
one inch common with Chron's Disease?

Thin stools can be common with CD, I get them all the time, my CD mainly affects my colon (crohn's colitis)...please don't upset yourself about
cancer....my risk of cancer is very high for a few reasons; I've had active disease in my colon the entire 21 yrs I've had CD (after 10 yrs of active colon disease the risk goes up quite high) and I'm totally fine as far as cancer goes.
CD can affect any part of the GI tract, if you're dealing with proctitis (inflammation in the rectum) that can also cause skinny stools, IBS can also cause skinny stools...there's many things that can cause them. The fact that we have an IBD means we get scoped more often than the average bear therefore if there were any signs of cancer, for us it would likely be caught sooner rather than later.

Your disease WAS in the terminal ileum. then you had that removed. Now it is possible that your disease IS in the colon. Time to call the DR.

Colon, or rectum, or possibly even both...CD can affect more than one area at a time as well...I agree, you should probably call your doc.

I used to get so worked up over fears like the possibility of cancer when I would start to have GI symptoms and needed to see my doctor. I think the one that always worried me the most was seeing blood in my stool. I would get so anxious and worried that I had something "really terrible this time" that I would leave the doctors office relieved that it was "just a flare-up". Now I still have some anxiety, but it has mellowed a little with age.
Yes, you can have thin BM with Crohn's. Inflammed bowels means narrower bowels means thinner & slower bowel movements. Change in appetite and BM is worth checking in with your doctor to verify what's going on and to get the appropriate treatment before it becomes worse.

I have definitely had thin BMs before. Sometimes I can't help but look at it and thing "toothpaste coming out of a tube" just based on how long and thin those suckers can be.
The likelihood of you having cancer pop up out of the blue like this is probably fairly low. Colonoscopies are most likely frequent enough that your doc would catch any pre-cancerous or cancerous polyps. Also, I *think* they can check for cancer by looking at T-cell action in the blood. I would talk to your doctor and get his/her opinion, and if they try to blow you off, just make sure your concerns are stated fully and keep bugging them until they give in :]

I have ribbon-like stools all the time. I definitely don't have colon cancer or any precancerous conditions. Don't worry about
it. Weird s**t happens.

last scope I had was in 2008. I guess that would be a very fast growth time for cancer. I also never have blood or pain.

You're also very young for colon cancer. Your overall risk for colon cancer is higher than the average person's, but not to the extent that you should worry about
it in your 20s or 30s or even 40s, frankly. You might want to talk to your GI about
this.

I see my GI in a few weeks so I will ask him when I see him.
It has been like a year since my last solid stool so i was a bit freaked and excited I guess.
Looks like this fiber tablets were doing their job.

Fiber tablets can do that.
Isn't it freaky that we get so excited about
solid stool?

Its pretty sad. I can tell when one is coming because I can feel it moving around my mid section. Not uncomforatble, just that feeling something is inside. I don't envy normal people at all.

I envy normal people...god I miss having one perfect bowel movement a day and never worrying about
my bowels the rest of the day...I was like clockwork...and since getting sick, I always have that poop-attack feeling and it's awful compared to just having one once a day.

I have thin stools all the time due to a rectal stricture caused by inflammation. If you have had D most of the time, you probably wouldn't have noticed it. I have solid movements and have to take laxatives everyday so I can pass everything. My fear is a blockage. I am on Humira now and hope to stop more inflammation and more problems. If you have a stricture, your GI doctor will see it when you have your next scope. Talk to him about
it though and hopefully ease your mind about
a more serious issue.

I have, for as long as I can remember, had thin stools. My GI told me that I had scar tissue and narrowing in my rectum and might have had active CD in the rectum at some point, which is what causes my stool to be thin.
Other things like internal hemmorroids which are common with crohn's can affect stool size.
Hopefully it's nothing to worry about
. Though given that this is different for you I would bring it up with your doctor.

No, while a thin stool should be checked it can be caused by damage to the bowel lumen, think that's what the GI said.
I've had a flat ribbon like stool for years. I had a resection done several years ago and was looking forward to a normal bowel movement. It was discouraging because it never happened to this day. It's chronic diarrea most of the time and when it forms even a little it's very flat and not the normal shape..
I had a CT scan done recently and have to go to the doctor tomorrow, so hope everything is alright this time around.
