Pain just about constant now

My bleeding duodenal ulcer from Crohn's is really bugging me this last week or so. Everytime I eat, I get upper left quadrant pain. My surgeon is away, could be a year before I get my scope. Why is the Canadian medical system so rotten? If I go to the ER, I will wait 9+ hours to be told we can't do anything for you and give me pain med's and send me home. Not up for that, rather lay at home. Maybe I will go on Boost for a while till things calm down. I dunno, just needed a place to vent today, really muggy outside today and stuck indoors.

Sorry you are feeling crummy.  Hopefully a liquid or low residue diet will help out.  I tend to avoid gluten products as well when I am feeling like that because I find that they irritate me as well - but I am sure that is not the same for everyone.  Do you have a GI that you could call to try a steroid or pain med to get you feeling better?  I am from the US, so not familiar with the medical system in Canada, but I usually call my GI when I am feeling really sick or in pain and he will give me something (prednisone or pain pills) to hold me over until I can get in to see him or run some tests.  Good luck to you, I hope you start to feel better soon!!!  Take it easy in the AC for the next few days!

any way you can pop down accross to our side and pay for a scope out? does the canadian system cover you if your "travelling"? hint hint. so like come down have an ataack and get scoped?

Myrne - thanks for the kind words, I am on Entocort and Humira, and I have T3's for pain. I am gluten free, of course I cheat sometimes, LOL.
Randy - Have thought about that a lot, however it is my new surgeon who wants to see where the ulcer is exactly because it may be too close to the bile ducts. So HE wants to check it out himself before we go in there. But it is so tempting to drive down and eat like 3 cheeseburgers and have some real bad pain, LOL. But I just can't bring myself to do that, LOL.

blacky: my son worked at the Mayo Clinic on the medical intensive care unit. He told me that Canadians routinely showed up in the ER there because they couldn't get what they needed in Canada and Mayo would write off the expense. So, you might want to think about just getting in your car and start driving south!

I have actually sent in all my records to the Mayo Clinic and they basically turned me down. Very depressing. Here I am willing to pay for treatment and I was told I should stay here. I heard they don't like to treat chronic diseases because they can't always do something for them and they want to be known for the fixed up of people.

Found out that my hemo from yesterday is 87, so they cross matched for a transfusion AGAIN! I can not wait till my surgeon gets back, however, I don't know if his staff will let me through. I am so tired of this.

So sorry you are going through this Blacky! I wish I knew more about the Canadian medical system to help you out. I am sure there are other people from Canada on this board that might have some ideas for you to get help immediately?

It sounds like you are on the right meds and doing all you can do on your part. I am sorry it is not helping. It can be so frustrating, I know!! You will be in my thoughts, good luck!
