Rib pain- is this 'normal' for CD??

It seems both of my left and right lower ribs hurt to touch... The left is by far the worst-- it even makes it difficult to lie on my side.

My GI doc is away next week so I just need some reassurances that this is a CD thing- I have googled it and it seems to be.... Either way, even with a pretty good diet this is getting worse so I am going to start my meds Monday!!

Am guessing it is inflammation since it almost feels like a dull burning- when I lie on my left side it feels like a bulge pressing in a bit-- seems when i put pressure it hurts more.

I had a cold 2 weeks ago but didn't do a lot of coughing-- I also swam a bit too much last weekend and thought that could have irritated things more but I had some mild pain on the left before.

My joints are so-so, been better but have been worse. I just changed out of my swimsuit (at the cottage this weekend) and it is better so my swimsuit might be a bit tight and making it feel worse.

I just feel hot all over- like I have been in the sun all day and my skin is burnt-- had sunscreen in the whole time-- yesterday inhad a mild fever so maybe I am flaring or it is getting worse??

Do u know that if I have more inflammation- when I do over use muscles do they tend to get irritate more? Am wondering if I somehow have injured them but they hurt more because of the inflammation??

Other than Prednisone, most CD medicines take a little while to take effect but everyone's experience is different. Just getting started is a great first step!

Kind of a stab in the dark here, but could trapped gas be a possibility? It probably isn't that though.

Anyway, with your current symptoms, speaking to your doctor sounds like a good idea.

It's just that in the past pain literally right under the ribs was usually gas with me. Eventually it would move on but would usually take several hours to do so. There were times when my entire colon would feel as sore and achey as though it had been through three rounds with Mike Tyson.

Low-grade fevers can definitely be a sign of active Crohn's. You are quite newly diagnosed and do not seem to have taken any Crohn's meds yet, so I wouldn't be surprised if you had a measure of active disease knocking about still.

Having Crohn's Disease will lower your bodies immune system. Even though you are not on the big medications that cause immunosuppresion, Crohn's can cause you to get sick more often. Your stress is only making it worse. Just as well, a fever is indicative of Crohn's. But you are also right, it could signify something else. Yes, make a call to your doctor. But, quite honestly, unless you do something (take your medication) to deal with your Crohn's, you will continue to feel badly. Beating around the bush is hurting, not helping.

Hi Chrissy, Did you say you started new meds? which ones? I get the fevers your talking about. I dont know if this will help but I can tell you my way of telling the difference between fevers cause by inflammation and infection. They are my main problem with the crohn's. I consider a Crohns associated fever one that comes on in the late afternoon and lasts until late evening around 11pm usually no higher than 100.5. For me, they are unbelievably and insanely predictable in there timing. I consider a fever for infection one that breaks the pattern and/or is higher. My Crohns fevers can skip days if my flare has not progressed too far but I always get one the day after I am active or go on a day trip, under more stress then usual, or do not get enough sleep. For me at least they come with flu-like aches, pains, and chills even when my temp is only around 99. As the disease becomes more active, they become everyday experiences and gradually take up more of my day. When i am on prednisone I have been getting this strange fever that is still unexplained every time I tapper to around 25mg but it goes away after that. It has happen all four times I have been on pred. not sure what that is about. does any of this sound similar to your fevers?
