mouth sores and weight loss

hey everyone,

just wondering about mouth sores.. do they usually appear at the beginning of a flare, during or end? or anyway?? i had sores that seem to flare up for a few hours but eventually go back down within that time.

also just wondering what contributes more to weight loss? i use to think it was D but i have no appetite over the last few days... so now i'm wondering if that is common with most people. it's easy to see how quick the weight comes off.. because i really don't care to eat anything.

last question-- does anyone have painful cysts? when i'm flaring it seems that the little cysts that i have around my ribs and abdomen flare up and hurt too...

i'm still dealing with a bunch of strange symtoms.. i will bring these all up with my dr. when i see him in 2 weeks.

Mouth sores can definitely be related to your CD. I have actually been suffering from cold sores since way before I ever began having Crohn's symptoms (about 5 a year, usually when I was getting over an illness or stressed). I have a prescription for Valtrex and that stuff is AWESOME. I take one pill as soon as I feel a sore coming on and it is gone by the next day (as long as I take it soon enough). MY GI always takes note of when I have one and am at his office - I think he thinkgs it's part of the CD. He also seems to think the cold sores will decrease in frequency when I get my CD under control (although I haven't noticed this in the past when I was in remission). Do your sores ever truly go away?? I would definitely ask your GI to check them out. And a dentist may be able to prescribe something as well. Good luck!

I agree with you about the weight loss, Chrissy, for me anyway. It seems to be more a feature of no appetite rather than lots of diarrhea. But there are certainly people with Crohn's who can drop 20 or 30 lb in a few weeks - that's got to be fluids and other losses, too.
