My cousin just had a bowel resection last wed where she had 4 inches of illium removed which included the valve. She just started passing gas and having BMs on sunday and they were all dark red bloody liquid and some BMs had blood clots in them. Is this normal after such a surgery and for how long?
The good news is that the surgeon thought all her pain was from problems with the appendix and not CD, and that the appendix might have made the CD worse than it would have been without it. My cousin had a large abscess prior to surgery, but during surgery, the doc could not find any signs what so ever of a fistula anywhere and feels the abscess was from the appendix and not CD. Her apendix was completely fused to the small intestine in one large mass of inflammation which was the lump she was feeling in her side. Pathology tests taken during surgery showed no active CD upstream of valve, some active CD in the valve area, but not alot, and there was no active CD in the colon downstream or in the rectum.
