First off, let me say that I do understand how...touchy the word cure is for all of us. That's why I used the word possible. They are still doing research on it. But this article is about using a bone marrow transplant for people with severe Crohn's. Interesting article.

It's an article from the Seattle Times about using bone marrow transplants to cure severe Crohn's cases. They discovered it on accident when trying to cure their leukemia and the CD disappeared.

Interesting. Makes a certain amount of sense; bone marrow is where the blood is manufactured, and the blood is a key component in the immune (and all other...) system.

That is interesting.  I have read about a few case studies where patients have received stem cell transplants as well.  All cases were a success.  I think it is also interesting that this is not readily accepted for Crohn's Disease because CD is not life-threatening.  I'm sure there are a lot of people with severe disease that would be willing to go through this procedure if it meant no more disease.

The concept of life threatening con be somewhat wide...

Say it to someone grossly underweight, bleeding D, no iron, and in severe pain daily.

Yeah, and even a mild case of CD I'm sure is still distruptive to one's life...life threatening or not, I think all CDers deserve to be cured and not have their disease dictate everything in their life.

It will be interesting to see what results from the study. I agree, the definition of "life-threatening" is pretty debatable. I hope they have huge success! Wouldn't a real cure be amazing?

@Myrne - where did you get the information from the case studies with stem-cell research? It would be interesting to see those.

Overall it seems to still be in the early ages of research and some articles I have read seem favorable while others state that it just leads to remission but is not a "cure".  It looks like they are looking for test subject as we speak:

A rough procedure, but worth it if it works. Crossing my fingers for an end to this horrid disease!
