Hey,

My name is Matt and I recently was diagnosed with Chron's Disease. My path started in this direction around April of this year. I started having really bad stomach pains every time I ate. I thought it was just stress because I have a young son in the hospital awaiting major surgery. My friend (now girlfriend) told me to go get it checked out that it could be an ulcer. Originally thats what I was treated for. Two months later I still wasn't getting any better so my PCP sent me to the GI doc for more tests. They determined it was CD and I have been on meds and diet changes for about the last 3 months. Its been a hard adjustment. I just finished my first active cycle and the last week I have felt absolutely depressed. I have a really hard time with change (I have a pdd-nos autism diagnosis).

I am only 26 and up until the last 6 months I lived a really active lifestyle and routine. Its been hard to adjust to a new diet and new lifestyle and I am just not sure how to pull myself out of my depression revolving around having Chron's disease. Was it hard for everyone else to adjust to the changes? I feel at a loss and with my son dealing with much more critical health issues (acute respiratory failure awaiting a lung transplant), I need to be strong for him and tough and its really hard.

Hey, MES1986, I'm sorry for all of your troubles. Glad you came to this forum, there is a lot of support here.

It would be helpful to us to know what kind of meds you're on, for starters. And are you feeling better, stomach-wise?

Yes, it is really depressing to get a diagnosis of a chronic illness. But I think if you can effectively treat it then you should have a full and satisfying life. Crohn's can be complicated to treat effectively, and having a resource like this forum is a blessing because we can help you sort through some of the craziness.

Did your GI check your vitamin D levels? People with Crohn's sometimes have poor nutritional absorption, and low vitamin D can lead to depression and fatigue. Just asking.

Hi Matt,

First off, I'm very sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. On top of dealing with your son's serious medical issues. 

As Kazbern indicated, you should let us know what your treatment has been so far, and how you're feeling.

The important thing I can tell you is, there is plenty of hope. Crohns varies widely in severity. You may be able to function quite normally on the right treatment plan. 

I know that your son's plight must be a considerable stress for you. I certainly don't know much about his condition, but here's a story about a young girl from Canada. It might give you good reason tobe very hopeful for your son as well.
