I have crohn's colitis which has been active for me since getting sick 21 yrs ago now.
One of the major differences (via colonoscopy) is with crohn's the inflammation is patchy (healthy tissues lined with inflammed) with UC, the entire area will be inflammed with no patches...also with CD the inflammation can go through the many layers of the mucosal lining, with UC inflammation stays on the surface of the lining only...those are 2 key things they should be searching for, even though the patchiness is a given, sometimes the surface lining thing may be sketchy since it's not 100% that every CDer has more than one layer of the lining affected but definitely the patchy inflammation is the number one clue/difference between UC and CD (regardless of where the CD is affecting the GI tract).
