Question about reducing the number of enemas

I saw my GI a couple of days ago coz of severe abdominal cramps and d. When he knew that d returned, he was pleased that my previous problems were not caused by a rectal stricture. So, he reduced my enemas to 1 pentasa enema on one night and the budesonide enema on the other night. I know it's too early to evaluate this reduction but I'm not well. C returned after taking only one enema/day instead of two and I feel withdrawal symptoms. I'm dizzy and need to sleep a lot. I have been taking budesonide enemas nonstop for more than 5 months now. That was the reason he decided to taper it. Should I continue the tapering? Is it the same w budesonide enemas that I can not stop them cold turkey? Should I increase the pentasa enemas instead? My GI was not sure of my response.

if you are feeling that this isn't working, then don't do it? I am having a hard time understanding the question. You are still using one enema every night, just alternating between pentasa and budesonide?

Kazbern, sorry for confusing you. I have been on pentasa enema in the morning and budesonide enema before bedtime every day. Now, my GI wants me to just use one enema/day, just alternating bw pentasa and budesonide. My question is: can I stop the budesonide enema cold turkey or should I taper it off? Thanx

But your DR didn't tell you to stop the budesonide at all, just reduce the frequency.

Frankly, I think you'd do well by using your pentasa enema more often. You're only getting 1g of mesalamine in each enema. Here in the west the typical mesalamine enema is 4g.
