Lialda

I've had Crohn's Disease for years and haven tàken Asacol, which has worked well for me. However, my insurance co quit covering Asacol, so my dr put me on Lialda. I was under the impression that it is almost the same as Asacol, but I have experienced some terrible side effects: Horrible acne, headaches, backaches, achiness and other flu like symptoms, bloating, and terrible flatulence! I discontinued it on my own, but still haven't gotten rid of all of the side effects. I hate this medicine! Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hmm, that's weird, they should be the same I think. When I was on it, I got Lialda, Asacol, and Mesalamine all interchanged just depending on what the insurance company decided to mail me that month. I'd definitely talk to your GI. It might be something else and the timing of it was just coincidental.

library, i contribute my ulcerative colitis to lialda usage. i only ever had very mild proctitis in my rectum for years. after i started lialda, i developed pancolitis and the rest of the symptoms- diarrhea, urgency, cramping, pain, hives, burning rashes ALL over my body. i think it's definitely possible to get worse on that med. i regret taking it.

did you ever tell your doctor you thought lialda made you worse? i told mine but he said my disease was just not responding to meds and my hives/rashes were from laundry detergent (i had been using the same one for years). i had honestly never had diarrhea before i started lialda- my main UC symptom was always constipation. i thought it was weird everything changed so fast.

I have been taking Lialda for a couple of months now and I have had an increase in gas, headaches, backaches, and acne, but I never even considered that they may be related to the medicine. I had just chalked it up to the increase in stress I was experiencing from having another flare up (except for the gas). I will have to talk to my dr. and see if it all could be side effects of the medicine.
