So I'm all fit for surgery...

Went for the pre-op health check at the hospital yesterday. Quite boring, really, just got asked a load of questions (yes, I'm going to confirm I have diabetes and asthma, even though there's no mention of it in my medical records), and had an ECG, the results of which the doctor described as 'beautiful' :p

Killed two birds with one stone and saw the stoma nurse after the checkup. She was brilliant. She spent a long time helping me to find the right spot for the stoma. She does seem to really know her stuff and I do feel more confident about knowing what to expect in the weeks following the operation. At one point I said something along the lines of she may know all this [about stomas], but did the surgeon? <_<. Apparently the surgeon does; they have worked together for 10 years and the nurses taught the surgeon how to make a good stoma.

Nothing guarantees a perfect job of course, but still, it's as reassuring as anything can be at this stage. I also affixed a fake stoma and bag and wore it up until this morning. It is comfortable. I forgot it was there for hours at a time, but then the awareness of having something stuck to my stomach hit me and I wanted to take it off :-/ I'm still a bit daunted by the prospect of having to wear a bag all the time, but I suppose I will get used to it.

On a final note, I got mugged £6 for parking. The magic parking ticket has finally ran out. Actually it ran out in late 2011, but for some reason it kept on working past that point until literally a week ago. Trying to replace it is a bureaucratic nightmare: have to have the permission of a ward sister or higher. Absolutely sure the hospital has made it this difficult on purpose: they wouldn't want to lose their cash cow when said and done.

So... all ready for surgery. Or as ready as I ever can be.

I don't post much in this section since I don't have Crohn's or anything but...I try to read a little from every section when I'm bored.

I just wanted to wish you luck with the surgery and say thanks for giving me a laugh over the magic parking ticket. It was my first laugh of the day :)

@kazbern - I will! Well, if my phone will let me, that is... >_>. It's a fantastic little phone and I can highly recommend it, but it would appear I got one with a faulty sim card. Worked fine apart from not being able to download any apps or games >_<. Took it to the shop I bought it from today and got a new sim card, so hopefully that has fixed it.
