having surgery mon - help!

Recurring infections due to fistula to bladder. Since the Dr has to remove it, that means that I have to have sm and LG intestines removed even though I have no other Crohns symptoms anymore since being on prednisone. I can eat anything and I'm regular. This sucks that I have to have so much rwmivrcd. I am so depressedand think this is a bad decision. Can anyone help me get through this?

Not really not enough information. I would have thought that repairing the bladder and the Fistula might have been the answer. You had to have had a serious discussion about this with you doctor. You ruled out other options, Dr.s don't like to cut unless really necessary. Second opinions are a moot point if this is happening Monday. Suggest you call the on call guy to ease your mind.

A Prednisone-induced remission isn't actually considered as remission by doctors. This is probably because you cannot stay on it long term. (Well, you can, but it would be a dreadful idea.) I bet if you tapered off Pred, you would find your Crohn's symptoms starting to come back.

Fistulas can be closed with some Crohn's meds, such as Remicade. Has this been mentioned at all? Otherwise, if meds have failed, or are not suitable, then surgery sounds like the right decision to me.

I was on Imuran for 3weeks until I got very ill due to a UTI. Then it seemed that as soon as I finished one antibiotic, I would get another UTI. So I couldn't start any of the meds except prednisone which I found to give me a better quality of life. I wish that they could remove the fistula without the illeum, etc.

Remember to always get a second opinion and research research. I am a long time (loooonngggg) time Crohn's patient.
Listen to your body and always discuss HOW YOU feel with the DR. If you are unsure, take your time to get information, unless it's an emergency situation.

I would get a second and maybe even a third opinion. Never hesitate to get another opinion, especially when major surgery is suggested!

What type of facility should your surgery is performed in? Answering these two questions will get you well on your way to an informed surgery.
