Remicade pre-meds: Solu-cortef?

My Daughter is having her first Remicade loading dose right now. She is being given a corticosteroid called Solu-cortef.

Does anyone know anything about this? Is this very typical, and are there any concerns with taking this along with Remicade?

There's nothing on the Remicade website that mentions the use of Solu-cortef along with Remicade.

It is an injectable steroid. I was given Benadryl and Tylenol before my first loading dose. Is your daughter an asthmatic or highly allergic to other things? My guess is her doctor wants to really prevent any type of reaction.

the nurses at my infusion center give that instead of IV prednisone. they say it is much better tolerated and use it for most of the chemotherapy patients. if i was going to take a steroid again, it would be that.

My husband gets 40 MSG of solumedrol with every infusion (in addition to Tylenol and Benadryl). He gets this because he does get an infusion reaction - he has flu like symptoms for a few days and the solumedrol really help manage that reaction.

Solu cortef is a lower potency steroid from what I read. I am glad she's getting it with her first infusion. We found out about my hubby's infusion reaction after a Friday infusion, and we spent 2 horrible nights and days trying to keep his joint pain and fever down. After that, they started dosing him with solumedrol.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and your daughter. I hope this works magic for her.
