Fecal Transplants on hold FDA (c. diff.)

Hi Folks,

I'm new to the Forum.  I have recently been dxed with c. diff.  I have heard that fecal transplants have a very high cure rate.  I am currently on Vancomycin, so will wait until the end of treatment to see how it goes.  So far, still having awful flares, near delirious during flares.

Fecal Transplants have been put on hold by the FDA.    shocked   Do you know of any place that do the f. transplants outside of the US, preferably Canada?

If not, is it safe to do it yourself via enema?  There are some guides you can download on the internet.

tera, it is frustrating that most doctors won't do them. i've had c diff twice and my doctors won't do it unless i fail antibiotics 4x. i feel like i'm just worsening my symptoms by doing that, but i'm not sure why fecal transplant is so controversial.

i ended up doing 8 FTs at home last year but got much worse. i wasn't able to convince my doctor to do any poop testing so i just winged it. if i were to do it again, i would DEFINITELY do it through a doctor that has done stool testing.

Oh no, the at-home ones didn't work? Did you follow any particular guidelines? And yes, I'm getting my donors' stool tested. There are some guidelines on the internet. Have you thought of going to Canada or overseas? Well, maybe you would run into the same problems. They are supposed to have such a high success rate. Do you know why the ones you did didn't work? M

i think the ones at home didn't work because my diet was too different from my donor. i was a vegan and she ate everything. the bacteria from the foods has a lot to do with the bacteria that inhabit our colon. i think it was just a total battle to be honest. if i were to do it again, i'd pick someone who has a very similar diet to mine.

i used borody's online protocol.

as for travelling, i can't travel due to the costs and i wouldn't be able to guarantee that i'd get it done when i'm there.

bananagirl, were you treating c diff when you did FTs? Or was it the UC?

Edbar, i was treating uc. I wonder if i ended up getting c diff overgrowth from that though. I remember at my colonoscopy, my doc said i have a perfect picture to show his students of what c diff colitis looks like. But at the time, i was testing negative for c diff so he was really puzzled by that.
