I'm an American student studying in the UK and I can't get a doctor to examine me. Because I'm on Remicade and Immuran I get yeast infections and other bacterial infections really easily. I now have two severe bacterial infections that is covering the entire genital area and has begun to spread to the entire body. The GP I go to said they wont examine me because of where it is...they don't do sex health... this isn't an std its a bacterial infection. Then I went to a sex health clinic they did examine me and put me on two weeks of Fluxocillian. It has begun to help but I'm on my last day of the meds and the pain and infection is still there. I can't get in to see another doctor for over a week. So today I called the NHS hotline and they said to go to a walk in clinic I did and they turned me away even after I called them to make sure they would examine me.

I am in so much pain right now and that I can't consentrate or sleep or do anything... and I have two papers due. I am to the point where I am just going to fly back to the states even though the idea of sitting on a plane for 20 hours makes me want to cry already. I just needed to vent.

I'm from the UK, but never had anything like this. It sounds like you're registered with a GP, so not having a GP isn't the problem.

I would just go to A&E at this rate. If they try to persuade you to see an "Urgent GP", or whatever, at reception, refuse. Take something to do, because you'll be waiting for hours, but you will get seen by a doctor eventually.

That is beyond ridiculous. The GP is supposed to examine you regardless, he cannot put it down as a sexually transmitted infection the least they should have done was referred you to someone who could examine you!
Try finding another doctor surgery and please do go to A&E

University drs aren't all that good. I used to get a lot of utis and yeast infections in my mouth from my meds n my drs at uni were so bad I'd call the one at home leave a message with the nurse wouldn't even see me and they'd write a prescription if I was happy I knew what was wrong but then of course I had to drive for 3 hours to get the prescription! Lol

Please just try another doctor there are some good ones out there!


It might be an idea if you go to a&e to try and register with the GI for the remainder of your studies so you can have a number to call a nurse that specializes in this area!
