Jen, I fast/do a liquid diet for a couple of days before prepping to aid with the excruciating pain from the liquid prep, it cuts the cramping way down and makes for a quicker prep considering there's hardly anything left in there to clear out LOL....I've never had to worry about not being completely cleared out for the scope...I even had one GI that wanted to scope with no prep to see how the stool looked inside the intestine...he wouldn't knock me out for it and it was very painful, I dropped him immediately after that. With the issues I have on the anus with the perianal crohn's skin tags, I have to be completely under or the pain is unbearable just in the anal area alone.

PB4, darlin', do us a favor and let this ride. Its gone far enough. You guys have all gotten your point across and its heating up in here. We don't need that. You guys don't need that.

pb4, geez, I can't imagine getting a colonoscopy with food in my colon!!! I've never heard of a doctor doing that. Wouldn't the camera just push the crap back up. OUCH!!

I've been awake for a few but never had pain thankfully. just felt like there was a slippery snake up my butt.

It is unreasonable that one member is permitted to launch several hostile personal attacks against other members for no reason, and not be held to account.

Yeah bananagirl, it was horrible, they only gave me something to relax me and I was awake and NOT relaxed one bit, the agony of that experience will haunt me forever, especially with what I'm sure was more air than usual being used on me due to not being cleaned out, he couldn't even go very far due to the crying and screaming pain I was in, that's why I dropped that GI like a hot potato.

I actually had a scope with no prep, it was an emergency one because I had been bleeding so much. I didn't wake up during that one actually, and I wonder how he did it. I was bleeding pretty heavily so maybe I was cleaned out some, besides all that blood of course. That would be insane though just to have it done with no prep otherwise. Ouch! I can't even imagine.

Like everything else we are all different though, and they just give the same instructions to everyone and we have to figure out what works best for us. It's hard when some of us go so much already that prep seems silly, but then there are others that are constipated too and I can only imagine that would be painful having to do prep like that. Especially if they ate!

Hey, Jen. You think maybe whilst you were "out of it" they gave you an enema or two to clean you out some, even if just enough to be able to move the scope thru???

Say what??? Some educated idiot gastro wanted to see what the stool looked like inside the intestine???!!! Interesting concept, ya think.

Ya, C2 he was a nut-job IMO, if I remember correctly (it was at least 13 yrs ago now) he wanted to see how it adhered to the intestinal tract, why I don't know, maybe that's how they do it in England, that's where he was from...since I was awake I could see all the crap (literally) and I thought a colonoscopy with a cleaned out bowel was embarrassing enough but this doofus had to take it to another level.

Jen, I think C2 may be right, they more than likely gave you an enema while you were out, if so, how lucky for you eh!!

JLCat has completed her scope and reported on the results. You have all chimed in regarding what YOUR instructions were, and what worked for YOU. As we are all so different in structure and disease, variety of procedures and outcomes are all over the map.

That said, I see no further need for this thread to remain open for discussion. There has been some rule violations and sniping which never helps anyone. Therefore, I am locking this thread.
