Anyone on REMICADE, IMURAN, etc. worried about getting STDs?

Anyone single here who is on Remicade, Imuran, etc. worried about their increased chances of getting an STD, Herpes, HPV, crabs, HIV, u name it, from lowering your immune system and messing around and rolling the dice with somenone you barely know?

Am I correct in assuming that I am WAY MORE at risk in getting at STD (or worse) because I'm on REMICADE, than the average sexually active risk taker?

HIV is transmitted via blood and herpes is transmitted via direct contact with a herpes lesion, so no I'm not worried.

If you already have the herpes simplex virus dormant in your system, then immunesuppression can make outbreaks of cold sores or genital herpes more likely. But it's not gonna increase your chances for infection in the first place.

I don't know if you are deliberately taking risks with unprotected sex, but if you do catch something and pass it onto another person, that's not fair on them...

These drugs do not increase your risk of contracting a STD - unprotected sex does.  Like NCOT said, a lowered immune system can trigger an outbreak of cold sores or herpes, but you would have had to have been exposed to the virus prior.  Plenty of non-immune suppressed people get STDs - - practice safe sex or get tested with your partner!!

I think I would practice safe sex no matter what. Not something you really want to roll the dice with! I'm married though, and we don't mess around. So no, it's not something I worry about.

I agree with all of the above. my only addition is, although you will not be at a higher risk by being on meds, you may suffer more because of your compromised immune system. by the way, crabs aren't an STD, they are a louse, like Lice, fleas, and ticks.
