Since April 30, I developed a perianal abscess. MRI showed it did not reach the intersphincretic mechanism. So, I saw my surgeon who put me on antibiotics and said if I didn't become better, he would open the abscess. I started to respond to the antibiotics but he still wanted to cut it open. However, my GI told him to keep me on antibiotics as long as the abscess was responding. I stayed on cephalosporin 1g/12 hrs for 3 weeks. Things became better then pain returned. So, my surgeon put me on cefepime IM injections for 3 days. Still, I was not comfortable and had fever. So, my GI prescribed the cefepime im injections again for other 5 days. He ordered another MRI which came out free.
Starting yesterday, the same severe pain of a perianal abscess returned, I have d and my anus is swollen. I called the surgeon for an appointment and will see him on Tuesday. Meanwhile, what can I do to relieve the pain. I can't imagine taking again these huge amounts of antibiotics.I'm not sure whether I should have been operated from the first place but I do trust my GI's decisions.
Any replies are highly appreciated.
