Hello All,
6 weeks ago I was rushed to the hospital with terrible abdominal pain and I ended up having 5 CM of my small bowel and my appendix removed. about 3 weeks after my surgery a lot of pus was coming out of my incision site which was diagnosed as an abscess and it was opened and drained. However, the draining continued and it was re-diagnosed as a EC fistula. I have been dealing with my fistula since then however as I get better and start to eat a little more I'm having a hard time controlling my fistula output (the gas and fluid is uncomfortable). I was wondering if you guys can give me any tips on lowering my fistula output.
Here is some information about my fistula and myself
Fistula:
I change the dressing about 3 - 4 times a day
Seems like it's a 50/50 mix of gas and fluid
Stays quiet until i start eating but then the output starts
Me:
26 year old male with Crohn's for the past 5 years
Humira every 2 weeks
Do you guys have any recommendations on what I can eat or how often to eat or any drugs (Gas x, imodium..) I can take that will help lower my fistula output so I don't have to change the dressing as often and I feel more comfortable?
Thank you for any advice that you have
(My surgeon and I are still waiting to see if the fistula will close itself but i'm starting to get impatient (I'm going to ask about increasing my humira and perhaps fibrin glue to close the fistula))
