Having surgery the 17th of December. I have been on every drug imaginable (sans Cimzia) and this seems to be the only option. I am having it done by a very well respected doctor who only believes in doing it regularly, however, this is not a big deal as I already had ileocolic surgery about 10 years ago he is going to use the same incission.

My question is this, as I do not remember my recovery from the last time. I would like to return to work by the 7th of January. Am I kidding myself? Is this possible if I take it slow and only work a few hours a day? If anyone can share their recovery time (assuming no additional issues) I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Depends if the surgery is done by laporoscopy or the norm which depends on how extensive it is. Depends on age as well, as a young person will spring back much quicker than an older person. I was in the hospital 10 days Unfortunately my diseased and narrowed bowel was way too extensive, so had to undergo surgery the usual way. It took several months for me to regain my energy fully to normal, although I was doing some light work 6 weeks later. With laporoscopic surgery, the hospital stay, down time and recovery is much less than the normal way of undergoing surgery.

With your past surgical history it might not even be possible to do it lapro due to scar tissue. That was my issue 4 years ago, the surgeon insisted we could do lapro but when they tried there was just too much scar tissue. Going back to work is going to depend on how well you recover and when your surgeon releases you for work. Mine insisted on 6 weeks and I needed every bit of that time. My first week back to work was so hard, I didn't realize how weak I still was. But if you can do it without harming yourself why not?

I don't know if what anastesia(sp) you will be getting, but if they offer a nerve block I highly recommend it. I was able to get right up out of bed with no screaming abdominal pain.

I had an open resection and stricureplasty in September. Was in the hospital for 2 weeks and very sick prior and I was back to work in 2 months. I feel pretty good. Some days I am beyond tired once I get home from work, but I think that is expected and my husband will take over the kid and dinner responsibilities on those nights so I can rest a bit. My surgeon wanted me to stay home until the New Year, but I was going stir crazy and am happy with my decision to return earlier. Good luck!
