Perianal Abscess after fissure surgery. Couple of Q's.

Had surgery for a fissure about a month ago, and subsequently developed an abscess near my sphincter.
I had surgery for my abscess (cut and drain) 3 days ago and I am getting it packed daily with Sorbsan by nurse.

1 - There's still a hard lump there and it's still weeping pus, is this normal at this stage?

2 - I've had conflicting advice regarding sitz baths. Should I do this at all?
If so how regularly, and do I use normal salt, epsom salt or something else?

Welcome to Healing Well! Sorry you are having these problems.

Who is giving you the conflicting information? Did the surgeon tell you to take them? Or perhaps said to take them once the packing is removed?

I used Epsom salts in my sitz bath but I was using the kind that fits in the toilet. Not sure I would sit in a tub in Epsom salts. Since you need to clarify if you are to do them, ask that also.

Some weeping is natural. The packing is likely making it feel harder and larger than it actually is. The point of the surgery is to open it and keep it open so it can heal from the inside out.

Hot baths as many times per day as you can, I agree with Ides - you want to keep that area draining and open for all that nasty to came out so it can heal from the inside.
