Confusion about Crohn's (calprotectin)

Are you saying that you were diagnosed with Crohn's through a measurement of calprotectin alone? Did you have a scope that showed inflammation?

Is your inflammation limited to the terminal ileum?

Entocort is not a maintenance medication and as you seem to know, untreated inflammation in the terminal ileum can lead to many bad outcomes, including obstruction and possible fistulas, etc. You don't want this. Additionally, the terminal ileum is where much of the nutrition is absorbed, so inflammation in this area is probably making you anemic, low in vitamin D and possibly other important nutrients. I realize you think you feel fine, but I doubt your blood work shows a healthy body.

I'd like to hear more about the diagnostic process that got you here.

Thanks!! In June, I had symptoms of an acute appendicitis. Turned out I had an inflamed ileum and ileo-cecal valve with granulomes or something like that (is that what it is called?) diagnosed based on an echo and a endoscopy. I was 'treated' with entocort. I was observed for the following weeks. These values were based on a fecal sample last week. I wasn't not diagnosed with Crohn's last time, because my symptoms were rather acute. But as it seems like an inflammation is active (based on these values) are still present, they are assuming it is Crohn's and want to put me on these new meds. A new blood test was ordered and I am awaiting the results

Thanks for the links, T . The second page I saw. What I am wondering simply put is whether or not things will go downhill from here without this Mercaptopurine. Will my intestines possiblyget blocked (or any other nasty things I am being threatened with) without this meds if I am currently not experiencing any symptoms? Not sure to what extent anyone can answer this question
