How outdated is too outdated for Pentasa?

Cleaning my office desk drawer and found a small bottle of pentasa I had kept in case I forgot to bring mine on a day. Expiration date is 12/2012. I am usually overly careful about food and meds and toss right at expiration...but hubby has read where I am probably too cautious. What do you think or know?

The main issue is most meds is that they supposedly lose their strength or potency with age-I have taken outdated meds up to a couple of years out before when needed--Have a stash of phenegren that is almost a year out of date--it is an antihistime based drug--so I am not too concerned--

Habs, there was a recent post indicating that meds can still be used to up to 15 years. Sorry, can't find the post but you can search it. The main concern is also like what Cindy has said is potency and also the way it was stored; that's why they write an expiration date on boxes. I'm too using an expired pentasa box but it was due November 2013 and I can't feel any difference.
