I have been told I have UC , now pan colitis,for 7 years now after 3years of ulcerative proctitis. My last colonoscopy showed ileum involvement, though it is only the second year of my ileum being checked as far as I know. Doc still thinks UC and that it is backwash ileitis, due to the uc involvement up the end. anyone know about this.

But I have a huge mouth issue that she is not really forming an opinion on. Based on my research I feel it is pyostomatis. If anyone cares to look it up and see pics. Mine is spreading and getting more severe, though not as bad as the worst pics, I have the white trails on my gums, and whitish film in the creases of my mouth, and bumps on my cheeks....itmjust seems weird...not like canker sores though...I think. It says it can be seen in crohns and uc.

I really want j pouch surgery hence my concern

I have never had any pain associated with my uc, just flaring forever, accidents, up all night etc.

When one GI I had tried to change my CD dx to UC, that was how he tried to explain my ileum involvement. It really made no sense for me that he tried to change the dx since I have fistulas and my colon involvement is in keeping with CD. Anyway, yes, I've heard of this firsthand.

Aphthous ulcers of the mouth can go along with CD; I'm not sure about UC, but you can also get a yeast infection (thrush) from the medications. I've had a bad case of thrush that fit your description. It helps now that I use a toothpaste without SLS as it makes mine worse.

It would really seem in order to get a 2nd opinion before you go into surgery, and especially discuss it with your surgeon. My surgeon, though willing to hear my GI out on his hypothesis, agreed with my original CD dx, especially since I have fistula--something he had not seen in UC patients he had operated on.

Well, backwash ileitis is not associated with a higher rate of pouch failure:

I think backwash ileitis is milder than Crohn's disease. I had a stricture in my terminal ileum; never heard of a TI stricture with UC. I'd seek out a second and maybe even third opinion for something as important as surgery, but my feeling is you probably do have UC.

Thanks, I have head thrush, not now though, I just reality hate making appts. So sick of it. Basically the inside if my mouth looks like my colon probably does.
