New to this forum. Not sure if I have CD, but I had a perianal abscess which required going to the doctors for (11 days ago). He put me on antibiotics and asked if I had any history of CD in my family (I don't, that I know of), but didn't go any further to suggest getting tested for it. Anyway, less than 24 hours after my Drs visit, my abscess ruptured and a small amount of *****-blood came out. It drained a small amount of this liquid for a few hours and over the course of a few days, had begun to heal over. However, after it had healed over, it began to puff up again and become sore again and once again, it opened and released a small amount of puss. The thing that really concerned me most is once in a while when I pass gas, it feels like a small amount of air passes out the opening of my abscess. I had a follow up appointment a week later and expressed my concern for possibly having a fistula and explained how air came through when I passed gas, but he said he didn't think it was a fistula and that I should let it heal on its own. I am in no pain, and have had no fever and the doctor said that in his experience, if I DID have a fistula, I would be in more discomfort and would not be well. This was my first time seeing this doctor and he seems fairly young, but at the time of my appointment it felt like such a relief to hear that he didn't think I had a fistula, since I really don't want to have any surgery, that I just took the good news without question. Now, however, I'm starting to wonder if I should get a second opinion before it just gets worse and an abscess returns. My question is, does this sound like I have a fistula? Should I get a second opinion from a doctor? Is it possible to have just a "minor fistula" that can heal on its own and not require surgery?
