Pentasa - blood in toilet

New to forum

I have been on Pentasa for 10 months and have what appears to blood I the toilet after I void.
I think it is the Pentasa but 3 specialist (gynaecologist, gastroenterologist and urologist) say there is no reason for it to be Pentasa. I have had so many test with any conclusive results.

Could there be a chemical reaction to maybe toilet cleaners to the Pentasa in the urine?


Any advise, prior experiences, comments would be appreciated.

Yes, all the Mesalamine products [Pentasa, Asacol, Lialda, etc] can cause discoloration of urine and staining of toilet seats and bowls.

Thanks so much I shall pass this onto to the mediocs who don't seem to know about this.
It has cost me a lot of money and time in tests.

There is a giant difference between discoloration of urine and blood in the toilet. You should figure out which it is. If you are bleeding, it should not be from the Pentasa. Maybe that is what your doctor was trying to say.

Thanks I appreciate the comment - I do appreciate the effort put in by the specialists to solve the problem. It is difficult to distinguish between possible discolouration and blood at this point. Anyhow the doctors are impressed with comments from the forum and are happy to investigate further.

Can you do some fecal occult strips to see if there is blood in your poop? I have noticed that if there is toilet bowel cleaner in the toilet the urine does make it look red, but I've never seen staining on the toilet seat or bowels...been taking Pentasa since 2007. Maybe it's different for different people.
