My 13 year old son has been going through testing since last may, the doctors say its not crohns but the inflamation markers are always present during testing and the symptoms fit. He is always in pain, loses weight frequently, is in the bathroom constantly and has doesnt want to do things he normally enjoys. I have heard that there are foods (like green bananas) that can help with the pain and diarrhea. Are there any others any one can recommend? At this point and until the doctors can find out what is wrong with my child I am looking for any ideas and recommendations that anyone can give me. I hate to see my son in so much pain. The Bentyl, Flagyl and $60 dollar probiotics (VSL 3 that his doctor has prescribed that my insurance doesnt pay for) do not help.

What testing has your son undergone? Has he been scoped? Done a small bowel follow through? Abdominal MRI or CAT?

What kind of DR is your son seeing? Have you pursued a 2nd opinion?

I wouldn't bother with green bananas or any other magical diet solution. You need a solid diagnosis.

He has done it all MRi, CAT, endoscopy, colonoscopy, stool and blood labs almost 3 time a week, ultasounds the list goes on and on. He sees a gastro doctor at a childrens hospital they cant figure it out

Is he too small for a pill cam? Has anyone considered a balloon endoscopy?

Has he done a fecal calprotectin test? If this comes back negative for bowel inflammation then I would proceed to do elimination diets, starting with gluten. Even if he has not been found to have celiac disease, he can still have a gluten intolerance.

Inflammatory markers in blood tests are of some concern. Has he been seen by rheumatology?
