My son has crohns for 18 years. Hes been getting methylcobalamin (b12) shots for years. It was always methylcobalamon. Now they say they can only prescribe cyanocobalamin, which is the syntnetic form. Your body has to take the b12 you ingest and turn it into methylcobalamin. If you have liver problems this is hard to do. Now it is more hard for him to do because he just tested positive for genetic variation mthfr677c . Which means he haus ahard time converting folic acid/folate into methylfolate (the usable form) and that in turn methylates the b12. You need the whole methylation process to make glutathione, lower homocysteine, and prpduce neurotransmitters. I feel everone should get tested for mthfr genetic variants. The local labs are now doing it. This genetic variant can be the route cause of many health problems. Please do a google search and read about it. But my questiion was, is anybody getting methylcobalamin from their pharmacy?
