I have a summons for this week and thought my number was so high that I would never get called.  Turns out this week is jury selection for a case related to something that made national news from my area.  They only picked 4 people yesterday and I have to call in a couple of hours to see if I have to go to the courthouse today.  The news said the case could last at least 3 weeks.

Thing is I really would like to sit on the jury.  I just don't know if I could do three weeks.  I know I could tough it out for a few days or a week.  Someone told me you start later than my normal work day and finish earlier with breaks and a full lunch.  Is that true for all court cases (I have never been in a live courtroom to know)?  If it's true, I think I could do it...

If you're interested, I say try it. If you cannot make it, well, that's why they have alternates! I'm not for sure what a typical day looks like, but what your friend said sounds right. I would love to sit on a jury, but I haven't been called since I graduated college and got a full-time job which pays full salary while on duty. Maybe I could do the opposite of a knocking on wood to avoid getting called and tempt fate TO get called instead. Oh mighty Court Jury Call System Deity of CA: Call me for Jury Duty!!!

I think it sounds like fun and a wonderful opportunity! Like @not creative said (lol, I love that name), there are alternates if you aren't able to make it through. But I say to go for it! I'd like the chance to do it.

I did jury duty a few years ago, mine lasted a week. It really was hard on me. I didn't eat until lunch and then I had a few moments where I got stuck in the bathroom. Was really bad once we were locked away to decide the case and they would bring in lunch and you had to eat whatever it was. It was interesting though, and while I enjoyed a lot of it I'm not sure I'd want to do it again. Especially now that my Crohn's is doing even worse.

But if you're doing okay with your Crohn's and think you can manage it I'd so go for it. It is an interesting thing to do!

I got served for JD last year but had my GI supply me with a note excusing me. No way I could sit on those hard chairs for hours at a time.

It was close, but I ended up just outside the final number range.  It is both a relief and a disappointment.  The trial was for a woman that "allegedly" bought guns for a felon that used those guns to ambush firemen that came to put out the fire he set.  I would have liked ot hear the actual court statements versus the media chosen pieces...but I am also glad I did not have to worry about the "but I have to go RIGHT now" feelings.

Hey Myself 09...yes that is the case.....although what is Upstate versus Western NY depends on who you listen to turn I consider our area Western NY, but those from Albany/NYC would call anything else Upstate!

i got called but the case settled or something and i forgot to call the number the night before so i showed up for selection anyway. At least I wasn't alone! Someone else showed up too, we were both very confused.

i'd go for it. load up on loperamide and have at it! worst case they have to get an alternate.
