Increasing methotrexate dose

Hi, I've been using methotrexate 15 mg injection for over three months, It was making my crohn's and arthritis better every week, I've gained 10kg, nearly normal bms... but I started flare again and don't know what to do. Do you think upping dose to 20 or 25mg make any difference? My GI has concerns about toxicity with upped dose but I don't know; I don't have any options left.

I would be concerned with uping your dosage too. More of the same meds don't necessarily mean better control of the disease. Have you spoken to him about adding another drug to the mtx? My daughter takes Humira & mtx as a combo to her treatment.

If it is only a flare, maybe adding prednisone temporarily to get through the flare would help instead. You can taper of prednisone much easier than when you add the 'big guns' like remicade & humira.

25mg is the maximum dose for Crohn's and RA. Personally, I would rather maintain on 25mg methotrexate than 15mg methotrexate + biologic, so if I was in your shoes I'd try upping the MTX dose first.

As I said above, I don't any options left. I don't respond to Anti TNFa drugs. Azathioprine did not work for me either. I wonder if 6MP make any difference for me? 6-TGN, 6-MMP tests are not available in my country. So we can't test the blood levels of the medicine. It is just your chance if it works.

I do 25 mg injections and always have along with humira. I have had no issues
