Wonderful, glad to hear it went well. I'm not surprised you're weak - the combination of not eating well the last few weeks, plus a major surgery would do that to anybody.

As long as money isn't an issue, I think it's for the best you've reduced the stress by giving up your second job tbh. It's early days yet, but it does sound like surgery has gone about as well as it can, including down to having a private room and good nursing staff. I hated the surgery ward and its staff: it was a time of sheer stress, just what you need after major surgery.

I'm so glad it went well! My best advice to get things moving is walk, walk and walk some more or as much as you can. And don't try and do too much when you get back home just ease into things -- including food. When my stricture was removed and I was allowed to eat I couldn't believe how much mash potatoes could hurt going through my bowel!! Hugs and good wishes. Let hubby take care of you and don't give the nurses too much trouble...unless you really want to :P.

Hey gumby....when you are not walking (which I won't repeat from everyone else) are you 1) laying on your left side or able to get onall fours - that seemed to get things moving for me in the past & 2) can those nifty nurses get you a hot water bottle or a hot blanket to lay on your belly?---that might help move things along too.

Frankly...your gut has not had much practice moving things lately so I am sure it is saying "hey what's going on!"

Crohn's doesn't take a holiday, so regardless of what the calendar says, I think you should take the doc up on his word when he says he won't send you home 'til you're ready.

It's great that your surgery went well, technically, and that is definitely a good sign. You probably *could* go home without incident. However, your gut (messed up though it might be :P ) seems to be telling you to stay a little while longer in a place where, should you encounter difficulty, help is immediately available.

I know others have bounced back (and out of the hospital) remarkably quickly after surgery, and that's wonderful. I myself was given my walking papers prematurely, imo, and ended up back in the hospital not long after that, as I was still losing weight (not unusual or necessarily dangerous, but in my case, it was) and super dehydrated/dizzy.

My sense is that you're not comfortable with the idea of going home yet, and at this point, it still seems reasonable to me to honor that feeling. In my eyes, staying in the hospital while you take your first walks, nourishment, and poops :) is a positive start to recovery. Going home while in this anxious state doesn't sound productive to me. Of course, it will be a bit weird whenever you do go home, but getting discharged when feeling at least a bit more secure can help smooth out the process of recovery.

As always, I can't seem to say anything briefly; sorry! And I acknowledge that others may have differing ideas from mine that should also be considered...just speaking from my own experience and the sense I get from your post.
