Hi all,
I'm returning from a long absence here, so thanks for always being here...
Anyway, the subject was pretty self explanatory, I'm a Crohn's & Crohn's related arthritis (almost identical to RA) sick since I was almost 13 but it officially diagnosed 18years later, 2 years 8 months ago, been on Remicade 2 years 6 months, helps the symptoms it's supposed to. Also have Asthma, bad allergies & a long history of chronic & acute sinus & respiratory infections all that goes along with those.
Somewhere along the long path of GI Drs who misdiagnosed me &/or just plain missed the point... I have been treated on & off for some poorly explained &/unexplained stomach ulcers, one even mentioned acid reflux in passing when reading one of the many CTs I've had with Barium swallow & follow through. Somewhere along the line I did get put on a PPI Dexilant (like Nexium but supposed to have better time release.)
Okay I know that's a lot of history to absorb, but we all have 'em, right?
So, a few weeks ago I lost my voice, it was allergy season, so I thought yeah this makes some sense... But it was worse then my normal hoarseness it was really all but gone and sometimes completely gone. After a few weeks, it passed what I consider my normal & actually went to the ENT who actually looked at my vocal cords with a scope & he seemed to feel like most of the damage was from acid, anyway he's not allowing me to talk for right now, he advised me to take more OTC antacids, and to cut anything acidic out if my diet (which seemed almost funny when I went over how bland my diet actually is).
I guess what I'm wondering is, has anyone been through anything like this? Does anyone know how to reduce acid when you take all the meds, sleep on a tilt, & don't eat anything on the cannot eat if you don't want acid reflux list. And I suppose the big one is can vocal cord damage &/or bad acid reflux be Crohn's related?
I'd thank all of you for taking the time to read this & consider answering even if you feel like your answer might be obvious, because I usually do well with medical questions (mine & others') but I kind of feel like I might be a little to close to this one to think terribly logically about it.
Thanks again,
YDLS
