Hello,
I am Jennifer from Mauritius Island, I was diagnosed with crohn's disease at the age of 13 years old and now I am 27.
I had several surgery, the last one was 2 years ago.(intestinal oclusion).
I got married last year, and my husband and I are trying to conceive.. but in vain.
Is it due to frequent flare up?

Hi again Jensyl!
How long have you and your husband been trying to conceive? At your age, most doctors recommend waiting until a year of trying has gone by before you do any diagnostics. Are you charting your cycle?

And now I am again on Salazopirine 2tabs twice a day

I know it's frustrating, but 6 months isn't that long. Are your cycles regular?

Yes I am cycles are regular
I know 6 months is not that long..
But I would like to have some advise and know if the medication have a role to play when trying to conceive and during pregnancy.

Hi Jennifer. I also have Crohn's disease and have had several surgeries. I was unable to conceive due to scar tissue that developed from my illness and subsequent surgery damaging my fallopian tubes. I was never told any of my medications played a role in my infertility. As far as medication during pregnancy, I was always told that the risk of a flare up during pregnancy was worse than the risks of taking medication while pregnant.

Exactly, jrskarpe. Most people with Crohn's who have difficulty conceiving are those with scar tissue in their pelvis. It might be something to think about
Jensyl, but not until you've gotten 12 cycles under your belt. At that point both you and your partner should talk to a reproductive specialist. He needs to be evaluated too, believe it or not.

Some people do, but I did not. I was hospitalized 13 times in 2012 and was on the birth control pill. I didn't even have a period for most of the year, I was so sick. In spite of all of that, I still got pregnant in November and found out in December on our one year anniversary that I was 5 weeks along. I was on Remicade, and earlier had been on imuran and mesalamine together.
