I was on prednisone for 8 weeks. My face got HUGE. I've been off for 6 weeks now, and yes, my face has gotten smaller. BUT I still have big apples of the cheeks, and my right cheek is still bigger than normal. I've heard that however long you were on prednisone is how long it takes for the swelling to go away. Is this true? I gained 9 pounds while on prednisone and I've lost six. Will my face ever return to what it looked like before the prednisone?

I don't think that's true, especially for extended times. I was on it for around two years straight and I didn't keep a moon face for two more years. The higher starting doses I've had generally have taken a bit longer to abate, but I don't really think it was that much different. Just when I thought I was going to be stuck that way, I would one day notice a difference. I really was more bothered by my buffalo hump, that fatty deposit at the back of my neck/back area. I hated that so much. But even that went away.

My face always went back to normal.

Your face will get better. It took some time for me to feel like it was back to baseline, though. I don't think it has to do with how long you were on it, more about the dose. I was on pred for months and it took a good 6-8 months to be normal again. Everyone is different, but it will go back!
