Hey all, I dont post here often, but i do read this forums at least monthly.
about a month ago I had been having what I thought was a bad flare. Went to ER and they did a CT which showed an Abscess around my Appendix. They believed that my appendix had ruptured. I didn't get sepsis but they installed a drain and put my on Antibiotics. Hope being that abscess would clear and then do an appendectomy at a later date.
Fast forward 3 weeks and I started to develop a low grade fever and the same pain that i had prior to them aspirating the abscess and installing the drain. CT showed abscess was gone. They then ordered an a CT with oral contrast. CT showed a fistula from what they think is the Cecum. Through a long process of seeing a few Gastro Doctors as well as colorectal surgeons in the hospital they basically gave me two options. Option 1 goon TPN for 4-6 weeks and be NPO (nothing by mouth) or have an Ileocecectomy. They said the conservative method has a chance to work, but the Gastro I talked to who specializes in Crohns/UC/IBD said the chances were small ~30%. So i have chosen to do surgery.
I have always had crohns in my Terminal Ileum and that is why they are going to remove that as well. I'm just discouraged because my Crohns has always been mild. I was able to keep it under control with 6-mp. Even during bad flares before diagnoses i never had it real bad. No trips to the ER or blood in the stool. I just never thought It was bad enough to where I would need this. Now from what I have been reading it seems like There is a good possibility that I will never have a normal poop again and have to get b12 injections every month. Sorry all, just needed to vent. I know there weren't any questions. Any comments or suggestions would be great. Thanks all.
