c-diff problem

I posted on the IBS forum too. Recent diarrhea treated with one week of Cipro and Flagyl. Symptoms improved then returned a few days later.

Subsequent stool test showed positive for C-difficile. Doctor has now prescribed 10 days of flagyl. Isn't that what caused the c-diff to begin with?

If I go on flagyl again can anyone suggest a probiotic or something that will help during treatment?

Well, you may have had c.diff all along, which was what was causing the original diarrhea. Flagyl is the first line treatment for c.diff, and if that doesn't work, they usually then go to Vancomycin. The Florastor probiotic, which is yeast based (so you don't have to time taking it around your antibiotic) is supposed to be helpful for c.diff. You can get it at CVS or Walgreens if you are in the US.
