Fistula help

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone could help at all as I can't seem to get hold of my IBD nurse!

I have been getting a severe pain in the butt (literally) for a while now and at my chrons check up I asked them to check it out. After an incredibly painful investigation (it shouldn't feel like that - some people do that for fun right?!) they booked an MRI for me at the end of the month but said it all 'looked normal from the outside'

Anyway, the pain just got worse so I checked myself and found a small hole. I went straight to the gp and showed them and they diagnosed a fistula and have given me ciproflaxicin and metronidazole. I feel absolutely terrible. Awful.

The fistula doesn't seem to be leaking anything at all. Will the antibiotics fix whatever the problem is? I'm a bit worried about all this talk of abscesses. Should I be going back to hospital and getting them to look at it faster or am I good to take the awful medicine and wait until the end of the month? Can you get a fistula without an abscess and will the meds fix it?

Concerned, feeling bloody awful and slightly freaked out.

You can definitely get a fistula without an abscess...I got a recto-vaginal fistula that even had a small branch off of it and it thankfully never abscessed on me...it was still very very painful in my vaginal area, very tender and throbbing pain in my whole crotch area actually...Humira seems to have cleared it up, I'll be going back in 6 months for another MRI to make sure Humira completely healed it...'

Besides the excruciating pain I had "down there" I was also passing gas from the vagina but thankfully nothing else was discharging from my vagina (stool, mucous).

I felt bloody awful and super freaked out when I realized I got a recto-vaginal fistula but thankfully Humira seems to have done it's job healing it up fairly quickly IMO too.

Best to stay on top of it though, god only knows when a fistula may becomes abscessed as well.
