Off-label drugs for CD - Xeljanz

I was in a Xeljanz trial a few years ago and it had a good effect for me. It was approved for Rheumatoid Arthritis but it's still in testing for Crohn's. My doctor said he will prescribe it off label, assuming my insurance will cover it. Does anyone else take Xeljanz, or other drugs off label for CD?

I took Humira off-label for Crohn's for three years before it was officially FDA-approved for it. My insurance didn't give me any problems because everyone knew Humira would eventually be approved for Crohn's, and at that time there were no other meds available since I failed Remicade, Imuran, and 6-MP. With Xeljanz, it's less clear as to whether it will ever be approved for Crohn's. The overall results of your trial did not look promising, though it was more so for UC. There are also other options on the market. So I'm not sure what your insurance will do.

LDN is off label. I think pentasa is off label. I take both.

Update: I was able to get approved and started on Xeljanz yesterday. The drug company is covering up to $40 of the copay, I guess because it's new, so it cost me nothing! Now if only it works for me.

i don't get why there aren't drugs coming out made specifically for crohns. you always see drugs meant for something else and than its tested to see if it works for crohns. just an observation, don't really understand the reasons why its like this.

I think the drug companies just target diseases with the most people, so they can make more money. Xeljanz was tested for crohns, I was in the trial, but I don't think the results were conclusive or it's still going on. It did work for me, we think, which is why I'm trying it off label
