I am 67 year old female. Had 4 feet of ilieum taken out 38 years ago and was in remission post-surgery until the last year. Strange thing was that 10 years ago when I started to have solid stools I had upper GI and colonoscopy and had no crohns at all. Started having pain and diarrhea in last period and colonoscopy showed crohns has returned. Waiting on appointment with GI doc and trying the Ensure only diet to see if I get lucky and can avoid nastier meds to get into remission again. I do take lomotil daily to control diarrhea and tylenol for pain.
Lots of questions:
1. Anyone know if I can have tea with sugar, tea without sugar or any other liquids besides water on this plan?
2. Should I avoid all supplements? Can I/should I take probiotics? omega-3s?
3. Since I have a resection, I never understood how I could have formed stools, but that being said, if the pain goes away (for how long?) and I am still having diarrhea (which I had for decades following surgery, treated successfully with Questran, when I was in remission) do I need to go the 6-8 weeks I have read is called for?
Thanks so much.
