I have had Crohn's disease for 27+yrs. Over the summer, had several tests taken for thyroid nodules and found out to have papillary carcinoma. Had a thyroidectomy in October and taking medication to replace the thyroid functions. Since taking Tirosint, the med., for the thyroid, my Crohn's is worse. I had a bowel resection surgery in 2012.
Anyone has had a similar experience having Crohn's disease and thyroid problems?

I was diagnosed with Chron's over 20 years ago. Have had minor flare ups occasionally, but it really hasn't been a problem. A year and a half ago I had a multi-nodular goiter that was a suspected cancer on one side. I decided on total thyroidectomy. But, yay, no cancer! I am taking synthroid and haven't noticed any flare ups until today. I think it is mostly due to the foods I've been eating the past few days. I would definitely talk to your Endocrinologist and gastronologist. I talked to my endo 6 mos ago and she mentioned I could see a nutritionist. Good Luck!

Hi,

I have had crohn's for 34 years. I to have nodules on my thyroid, which I have had drained. I take synthroid every morning in hopes that it slows down the growth of the nodules. So far touvh wood, mine are not cancerous. This started about 8 years ago.

I'm not sure if there is any bearing on this, but I never had nodules, skin tags or polyps on the bowel until I started Humira. Are you on Humira? I know some things just come with age, but I did notice the time line.

I had thyroid cancer in 1975 but was not dx with Crohns until 20 years later. My 31 yr. old son had thyroid cancer 2 yrs. ago but no Crohns. I don't think there is any connection for us but everyone is different.
