Does Entocort cause swelling and water retention

I'm in the middle of tapering Entocort. I'm now at 7.5 mg and I'm supposed to go down to 6 mg by the end of this week. My GI wanted me to be on 6 mg two weeks ago but I favored a very slow taper. My last experience in 2014 to go down to 6mg caused me body stiffness and severe body ache. My GI gave me then a single steroid injection and upped the dose to 9mg again. I noticed that both my legs are swollen from below the knees downwards. Could Entocort be the reason?

I think it could be. I had similar experiences with steroids, including the stiffness and swelling. Steroids in general cause fluid retention. I remember having to watch my salt intake while on prednisone. And I always felt terrible getting off a steroid, including when I tapered off Entocort, though it wasn't as bad as the pred.

JaSanne, thank you. The weirdest thing is that I didn't gain weight while on Entocort. On the contrary, when I switched from Pred to Entocort, I lost pred weight. It seems that the long use of Entocort caused me this fluid retention.

Hi,

I was always told no water retention was the beauty of entocort. It doesn't have all of the nasty side effects that prednisone has.

Julia, I read about entocort's side effects and they mentioned fluid retention as one of them.

Hi minnietoty.  I was on entocort this past Easter time.  I had been having fluid retention issues before it and they got worse.  My problem was not the entocort, but umm err wellllll age.  The only thing that entocort impacted was that my GP did not want to prescribe a "water" pill until I was off the entocort as he wanted to "make sure it was not the entocort".  I saw a tiny bit of reduction in issues when I got off the entocort...but not much.

Hi Habs, I think my problem stems from the fact that I withdrew pred by replacing it w entocort. I didn't give my body the chance to get rid of pred's fluid retention. The long use of Entocort, for 3 years, added to the already existing fluid retention.
