Entocort questions

I have been on Entocort for years off and on. I generally take it at the first sign of a flare and it has done a phenomenal job of reducing the symptoms (up until recently when I developed a really major flare that did not respond to it and I had to go on the regular pred for several months twice). The Entocort has the ant-inflammatory properties of the pred but because it targets the gut, you do not get all of the systemic effects of regular prednisone. I had a little trouble sleeping, but no moon face, no weight gain, no feeling like you could juggle furniture (which is how I feel when I am on regular pred). 9 mgs for 8 weeks sounds about right but everybody reacts to different meds differently. I would definitely check with your doctor about starting to taper to 6mg before the 8 weeks, I am extremely sensitive to medications so I always do the tapering slowly and do go down to 3mg before stopping, but my doctor has also said you can go down to 6mg and then stop. I hope it works for you.

The "standard" course of Entocort is 9mg/day for 8 weeks. But some people do end up taking it longer.

Side effects are generally quite a bit less severe than with prednisone, but it can vary from person to person

As for the taper, it's often something like 6mg/day for 4 more weeks, then 3mg/day for the next 4 weeks, then finish. But some people can and do taper faster, while others taper slower. There is no set-in-stone way to do it. It will depend how you're feeling and what your doctor suggests.
